Westfield gets go- ahead for Hamilton County public safety training center

Westfield learned Tuesday evening it can move forward with plans for a public safety training center.
The city plans the area on 93 acres it bought in 2009 near its water utility at River Avenue and 160th Street in Noblesville Township. While the city bought the land eyeing an expansion of its water facility's capacity by digging ground wells, Mayor Andy Cook also envisions a large-scale fire and police training area for agencies throughout Hamilton County, and eventually, Central Indiana.
The Noblesville City Council on Tuesday gave Westfield the go-ahead on the first phase, which Westfield spokeswoman Carrie Cason described as a building for training and professional development classes. Noblesville also could become a partner in the facility, as could Carmel and Fishers.
Eventually, Westfield plans something in scope akin to the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield, which trains police officers from throughout the state. Nothing of that scale in Indiana serves firefighters.
